- How do I register for courses?
Course registration is completed through the Student Information System within the dates announced in the academic calendar. The courses selected by the student become final after approval by the academic advisor. Students should make sure that their registration has been successfully completed in the system.
- Who is my academic advisor, and what kind of support can they provide?
Students can find their academic advisor information through the Student Information System. Academic advisors provide guidance on course selection, academic progress, graduation requirements, double major and minor programs, and similar academic matters. Administrative matters should be directed to the Faculty Secretariat or the Student Affairs Office.
- Is attendance compulsory?
Yes. Students are required to attend at least 70% of course sessions. Students who fail to meet the attendance requirement are not permitted to take the examinations for the relevant course.
- Can I take a make-up examination if I miss a midterm or final examination?
A student who misses a midterm examination due to a valid medical report may submit the report to the relevant unit within the period specified by the University. If the excuse is accepted, the student may take the make-up examination on the announced dates. There is no make-up examination for final examinations; students who miss the final examination may take the resit examination.
- How can I appeal an examination result or course grade?
Students who believe that there is a material error in an announced examination result may submit a written appeal within the specified period. The application is reviewed by the course instructor and, where necessary, the relevant academic units.
- Can I apply for course exemption and transfer of credits for courses I have previously completed?
Students who have successfully completed courses at another higher education institution or in another program at Istanbul 29 Mayıs University may apply for course exemption and credit transfer during the relevant application periods. A transcript and officially approved course descriptions must be submitted with the application. The final decision is made by the relevant academic board.
- How can I apply for a double major or minor program?
Students who meet the required academic achievement and application criteria may apply for double major or minor programs in accordance with announced quotas and application dates. Since the requirements may change, students should follow current announcements and the relevant regulations.
- How can I transfer to the English Language Teaching Program from another program or institution?
Transfer applications are accepted within the dates and quotas announced by the University. Applications are evaluated based on the student's grade point average, central placement score, and other requirements specified in the relevant regulations. Course exemptions and class placement are determined separately for accepted students.
- How are elective courses selected in the English Language Teaching Program?
The program includes field education electives, professional knowledge electives, and general culture electives. Students are required to select the appropriate number of courses from the elective category specified in the curriculum for the relevant semester. Available courses and quotas are announced at the beginning of each semester.
- Are there prerequisites for foreign language elective courses?
Yes. Spanish, French, German, and Russian elective courses are organized as sequential prerequisite courses. For example, students must successfully complete the second level of the relevant language before taking the third level. The prerequisite structure is specified in the curriculum.
- When and how do I participate in Teaching Practice?
Teaching Practice I and II are practical courses offered in the final year of the program. Placement schools and student groups are determined by the Faculty. Students are expected to follow the relevant announcements and schedule, attend orientation meetings, fulfill attendance requirements, and coordinate with the cooperating teacher and the responsible university instructor.
- How can I participate in Erasmus+ student mobility?
Students may apply for Erasmus+ study mobility during the application periods announced by the University's International Office. Eligibility criteria, quotas, partner institutions, and selection procedures are announced for each application period. The English Language Teaching Program has Erasmus+ agreements with various partner institutions.
- What are the graduation requirements?
Students must successfully complete all compulsory and elective courses in the curriculum, earn a total of 240 ECTS credits, meet the minimum GPA requirement specified in the relevant regulations, and fulfill all program requirements, including Teaching Practice. Students are advised to review their academic status with their advisor before graduation. The total ECTS requirement of the program is 240.
- Can I take courses from a higher semester or complete courses through summer school?
Students with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.00 may take one course from a higher semester in each semester, while students with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.50 may take two courses from a higher semester.
Istanbul 29 Mayıs University does not offer a summer school. However, students may take courses at summer schools offered by other universities, provided that they meet the specified requirements. Before enrolling in a course, students must obtain the necessary approval regarding the equivalence of the course in terms of content and credits and complete the relevant application procedures within the specified deadlines. Courses taken at another university without prior approval may not be accepted for exemption; therefore, students are advised to follow the process carefully.15.
